tat

January 25th, 2010 by jered

some of you may have heard this little band from england called “tat”. if you haven’t yet…get on it! and, as some of you may also know, these kids are dear to my heart. i met them back in 08 when i was going on tour with mxpx. i flew out to the east coast late one night, to find that the bunk i would be sleeping in was being occupied by tat’s drummer, jake because their van had broken down and they were waiting on their new ride. jake quickly gave up his spot, and joined the rest of his crew crammed in the back lounge. over the next few weeks i got to know jake, nick and tatiana and they became some of my all time favorite people! i can’t recall a time since i’ve met them that they haven’t been so extremely stoked to see me show up at a venue, arrive to do a photo shoot, or walk on their stage. they’re always greeting me with great big smiles, loads of british cursing, and hugs and kisses (mainly from the guys.) earlier i mentioned you should check them out. i’ll say this, don’t worry if you forget to get around to it…because i’m sure you’ll hear them someday. they ain’t goin’ anywhere but up!

this past summer while i was out on warped tour i tried to catch their set as often as i could. i can’t get enough of them!!!
i think i shot this photo of them my last day. i was walking back to my bus, and jake saw me…yelled hello and when i stopped to chat, nick and tatiana quickly joined him. i personally love this shot because its simple. it was in the moment. and it really captured that warped tour “summer camp” vibe bands are always talking about. here’s 3 real friends, posing for a photo before leaving an awesome summer behind…and still being the amazing goofy kids they are.

to nick, jake and tatiana…i will forever and ever love you guys! thank you for always making me feel like i’m some mega-star.

the new deal

January 24th, 2010 by jered

so, the new deal represented a significant shift in political and domestic policy in the U.S., its more lasting changes being increased federal government control over the economy and money supply, intervention to control prices and agricultural production.

ok…just kidding. that’s actually the real “new deal”. my new deal is the following….

A REAL WEBSITE HAS BEGUN. i know there have been promises and hopes for this for some time. (from you and me both!) but its true. we’ve begun. its happening. in celebration (and to get back in the habit) i really want to blog more.

the plan:
a) write more info, stories, thoughts, etc.
b) post random old photos leading to the new site launch!
c) rock on

today i purchased the new album “my dinosaur life” by motion city soundtrack. on my first listen, i’m enjoying! its cool to hear these songs in their completed state, because, as some of you may recall; this last spring/summer i spent a few days in the studio with the guys shooting photos.
i heard them working on a few parts here and there, so its pretty rad to hear the final product. hopefully someday soon i’ll be able to post some of the photos i got of the guys working with producer mark hoppus. we got some fun stuff…like this photo that ran in AP a few months back.

mcshop-1

and, in honor of the new mcs purchase today, here’s a live photo i shot of them playing in NYC back in the spring of 08!

mcs-live-1

woohoo for more postings! woohoo for random photos from the last 2 years! more to come this week…

the start of something new

January 2nd, 2010 by jered

jer2010-1

2009 is gone. and along with it, a freaking decade! wow. its crazy to think that 10 years ago i was just leaving high school. i hadn’t traveled much, let alone never been out of the country. had no idea what i was going to do with my life, other than hoping to be playing music. and now, looking back over these 10 years i’ve been blessed with experiences i will not soon forget.

before graduating college (after a nice 8 year time span!) i have been fortunate enough to visit japan, south africa, italy, the dominican republic, canada, mexico, almost all 50 states and um…disneyland? i’ve seen many things, heard many stories, and lived many adventures. again i say, i’ve been very blessed.

looking at the tail-end of this decade brings us to here. it brings us to me, owning a camera, photographing bands, telling their stories through photos….who woulda thunk it?!?
i don’t want to point out all the things i’ve accomplished (because then i’d post all the things i DIDN’T accomplish and that list would be way too long). i don’t want to brag about who i know, how fun life is, yada yada yada. i know that i’m fortunate to do what i do. its not every job you wake up stoked to do, let alone one that puts you front and center for some amazing performances.

that being said, i truly want to thank some people for helping close out an amazing decade. these people inspire me, influence me, have opened doors for me, given me breaks, chances, encouragement, challenges, love, rides to the airport, couches to sleep on, good times, and stories i’ll be telling my grand-kids some day. for all this…i am forever grateful.

THANK YOU: my family, amanda,  mxpx (mike, tom, yuri, james, tommy rat, moses, michele), the rocket summer (bryce, tara, seth, tommy, matt, nick, stu, brownie), relient k (ethan, john, jon, matt, matt, derek, tyler, james, travis, scott), tat (tatiana, nick, jake, holli) dizmas (zach, josh, nick, clay, jon, joey), mike shea, norman wonderly, alternative press, james mead, mark hoppus, craig owens, motion city soundtrack, anberlin, bayside, sever your ties, sherwood, lakes, the blanks, dashboard confessional, tumbledown, house of heroes, underoath, the honey trees, ragged jubilee, switchfoot, avner, phinehas, jeff newsom, sarah shreves, andy barron, nicole rork, megan picturetaker, i shot chad, dave hill, bryan sheffield, ryan russell, karey michelle, cameron ingalls, joshua caine, chris phelps, cale glendening, kevin russ, the rhoads’, the auers, these numbers have faces (justin z), to write love on her arms, invisible children, rock for health,  michael schneider, chris youngblood, kristina grossman, alex collins, gabe and goodie 2 sleeves, ephraim clothing, transparent productions, biola university, rock harbor, tooth and nail, island def jam, solid state, josh hernandez, jason frenzel, jonny miller, joe long, koda,  jeremy wells, ping, kelsea olivia, the anthony’s, abbey and alley and all the kind and wonderful people who reach out to me via twitter, facebook, myspace, my blog, emails….

(haha now i know what band guys feel like…i probably forgot someone and they’ll get pissed at me. sorry!)

thank you for caring about what God is doing with my life. it is a humbling experience daily. lets see what 2010 has up its sleeve, and what doors it will open to the next 10 years.
may the Lord bless each of you in your ventures. have the courage to step out into unknown territories. don’t settle for mediocrity.

see you all soon
